Project MORE: Progress Report

January 2004

·               Research assistant Qun Su continues to work on the redesign of our website, which includes improved navigation and search capabilities for narratives from the CNCC.

·               Theresa Perez, Chair of UNC-Charlotte’s Teachers of English as Second Language Program and consultant to Project MORE, and Boyd Davis were to meet with the ESL teachers at Montclaire Elementary School on January 26 but the meeting was postponed due to inclement weather.  It has been rescheduled for later in February.

·               Adnan Salaka finished collecting and translating interviews in Bosnian for the project.  Click here to access one of these interviews.  Khalil Mjahed also finished his Arabic interviews in January and we hope to have one on our website next month.  Evelyn Valladares has begun to conduct interviews in Spanish while Natascha Kruger continues to work on German interviews for the project.

·               Project MORE will award 4 faculty mini-grants of up to $2000 (summer money) to use the narratives in CNCC in the development of materials or curriculum for classes whose enrollment is at least 50% pre-service (or in-service) teachers. All UNC-Charlotte Arts and Science faculty are encouraged to apply, although preference will be given to first-time applicants. To be considered for a mini-grant, please submit a one-page proposal by February 29th to Dr. Davis at bdavis@email.uncc.edu or at Project MORE, Department of English.  Awards will be announced by March 15th.
