Undergraduate Degrees

Licensure Programs for Those Seeking an Initial License to Teach


All programs of study lead to a baccalaureate degree and/or an "A" teaching license. They include: 

B.A. in Child & Family Development
     Birth-Kindergarten licensure

B.A. in Elementary Education (grades K-6)
Students choose one concentration or one minor 

B.A. in Middle Grades Education (grades 6-9)

Students choose two of the following concentrations:

  • English/Language arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social studies

B.A. in Special Education (grades K-12)Under

  • Adapted Curriculum License
  • General Curriculum License

B.A. in Special Education and Elementary Education (grades K-6)

Minor in Secondary Education

Majors within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences: 

In collaboration with appropriate departments in the College of LiberalArts & Sciences, the College of Education offers professional education coursework that lead to licensure to teach in the following areas of Secondary Education (grades 9-12):

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Comprehensive science(builds on any science major)
  • Comprehensive social studies(builds on a major in geography or history)
  • Earth science
  • English
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Physics

In collaboration with appropriate departments in the College of Arts & Architecture, the College of Education offers professional education coursework that can lead to licensure to teach in the following areas of K-12 education:

Fine and Performing Arts:

  • Art
  • Dance
  • Music
  • Theatre

In collaboration with the Department of Languages and Culture Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Education offers a minor in Foreign Language Education and licensure(grades K-12) in the following areas:

Second Language Education:

  • French
  • German
  • Spanish
