America Counts at UNC Charlotte
UNC Charlotte’s
America Counts program is an extension of the College of Education’s
commitment to students, teachers and families in Charlotte, NC and
surrounding communities. UNC Charlotte students, who are trained by
faculty from the Department of Reading & Elementary Education, tutor
students in area elementary schools. Tutors are paid from Federal
Work-Study funds which helps them pay for tuition, books and living
expenses.
America Counts tutors work with elementary and middle-level students
on a range of math skills. Tutors typically work one-on-one with
students to improve their learning of mathematical concepts. We at
UNC Charlotte are committed to the success of the America Counts. We
provide:
-
Initial
training for tutors
-
Ongoing
support and training as well as onsite help when needed
-
Communication
with school partners with a goal of providing consistent and
relevant support for students
