Technology Assignment: Using PowerPoint

Great News!  You’ve been hired as a middle/secondary teacher and have been asked to make a presentation to your new colleagues.  They want to know all about you and what you have to contribute to the students, school, and faculty.  Specifically, they are interested in knowing what you bring to the profession and why you want to be a teacher.  You want the presentation to be very professional so you have decided to design a PowerPoint to aid in your presentation and to showcase your technology skills.  

Directions:

Building upon your readings and activities from Fewell & Gibbs, create a personal professional presentation using PowerPoint.  The presentation will be an opportunity for you to tell us about yourself, your hobbies and interests that will help you successfully perform your job as a teacher, and why you want to become a teacher. You will upload your presentation to your ePortfolio About Me Page.  You will make a presentation to “our faculty,” so we can learn all about you and why you have chosen this wonderful profession as your career.  Be as creative as you like but remember that this must focus on your profession and professional contributions.  Your presentation should display your knowledge, skills, and dispositions for teaching.  An additional purpose in completing this assignment is to demonstrate your knowledge and skills in using MS PowerPoint.

Completion of this task will require demonstration of mastery of computer skills.

Requirements for task:

1. Development of PowerPoint professional presentation. 

2. Explanation of why you want to become a teacher.

3. One page written reflection answering the question of:

• How can PowerPoint effectively be integrated into the curriculum? (Both for student centered and teacher centered activities). 

• Specifically address how the integration of technology improves student understanding of content.  

• {submit reflection as a hardcopy}

NOTE: All work should be proofread and should use correct grammar and spelling!

Technical Expectations:

The PowerPoint presentation should consist of as many of the following technical elements as are appropriate to the design of your presentation.  Remember, you must demonstrate your technical competence in using the various tools of PowerPoint.  Also, the technologies you choose to use must be purposeful, useful, and applicable. 

• A minimum of 5 slides
• Use of a design template or creation of your own design template
• Use of clip art or pictures
• Insert an organization chart from the diagram options (completely optional)
• Multiple slide layouts (optional, but will likely happen)
• Use of various bullet formats (optional)
• Modify text formatting
• Add lecture notes (comments to your slides that are only viewable to the presenter)
• Add slide transitions (optional)
• Insert sound in your presentation (only if it adds to the message)
• View your work as a slide show
• Save your work on your H: Drive with your name in the file name and upload your work to http://drop.io/f09aboutme
