Contracts

A contract is an agreement between a teacher and a student by which the student promises to complete certain activities or to exhibit certain behaviors and the teacher pledges certain behaviors or rewards in return. Contracts may be either written or oral; however, written ones represent more official appearing commitments. They may include social or emotional behaviors and may vary according to time constraints, criterion selection, and/or selection of rewards. Although most contracts are stated in positive terms, some include negative clauses or penalties that specify the consequences if the student does not meet the commitments.
