The Literacy for Democracy Summer Leadership Institute is an outgrowth of the classroom based LFD programs. The Literacy for Democracy Summer Leadership Institute is a summer program of UNC Charlotte in which teacher education students enrolled in designated courses learn to facilitate a one week camp for rising 4th through 9th graders. The goal of the Summer Leadership Institute is to:

  • Build tomorrow’s leaders through civic engagement
  • Empower students to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others—become AGENTS for change
  • Meet students at their educational point of need and provide support to help them grow as readers and writers
  • Provide technology rich learning experiences

The 2008 Literacy for Democracy Summer Leadership Institute helped students in grades 3-9 to become AGENTS for Change.
