This ten-day institute (five days in the summer and four days during the
2008-2009 school year and a classroom implementation project) will focus
on the four major science themes that cut across the North Carolina
Standard Course of Study for Science, Grades 3-5. Emphasis will be
placed on science content and authentic integration of literacy,
mathematics, and technology into the curriculum. The institute will
model best practices in science pedagogy. Assessment in science and
managing science materials will be included in this institute. The
institute themes include:
