SITE: K-2 Science is a nine-day institute (five days in
the summer and four days during the 2008 -2009 school year) that focuses
on the major themes that run through the North Carolina Standard Course
of Study in Science. Instruction for each topic area will begin with
mapping K-2 Essential Learning using Curriculum Topic Study (CTS).
Topics included in this institute are:

Organisms, Cycles of Life, Diversity of Organisms |
The
institute is designed to deepen participants’ science content knowledge,
as well as strengthen their ability to encourage inquiry and curiosity
in young children. Participants will examine misconceptions and reflect
together on instructional strategies designed to engage primary grade
students. In addition, an emphasis will be placed on the authentic
integration of literacy, mathematics, and technology.
