Application Form Charlotte Teachers’ Circle
The Charlotte Teachers' Circle (CTC) is accepting applications from middle school mathematics teachers in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. The purpose of the Charlotte Teachers' Circle is to provide teachers with an opportunity to develop a 'profound conceptual understanding of some of the fundamental ideas in mathematics'. U.S. elementary and middle school teachers typically understand these ideas well at a procedural level, but not at the higher conceptual level. At the same time, the Charlotte Teachers' Circle will provide the opportunity for teachers to develop a 'problem solving attitude', that is, a willingness and confidence to pursue students' questions and conjectures without fear of failing. See http://education.uncc.edu/cmste/TeachersCircle/index.htm
The Charlotte Teachers' Circle plans to have eight weeknight dinner meetings at UNC Charlotte on nights to be determined by the participants. There will also be eight Saturday morning meeting, mostly at Providence Day School, usually at the same times as the Charlotte Math Club and the Mecklenburg Math Club are meeting. There will also be one Saturday morning meeting at UNCC on November 17. At this meeting, Charlotte Teachers' Circle participants are urged to bring up to 20 of their students for a morning of mathematics, including the AMC8 contest.
