SITE 6-8 Science

(nine days of instruction and an
implementation project)
SITE 6-8 Science is a nine-day institute (five days in the summer and four
days during the 08-09 school year) that focuses on the major themes that cut
across the NC Science Standard Course of Study for Grades 6-8. The institute
is designed to deepen participants’ science content knowledge, and to
strengthen their ability to teach science through inquiry. An additional
emphasis is placed on the integration of literacy, mathematics, and technology
into the science curriculum, and on the use of authentic assessments.
Topics included in the institute are:
• Life Systems (human body, microbiology, pandemics) and
• Earth Systems (hydrosphere, lithosphere, and population
dynamics).
