II report for UNC Charlotte
The College of Education is pleased to report that there
were 1900 students seeking initial teacher licensure through undergraduate or
graduate programs at UNC Charlotte during 2007-08. Of this group, 549 students
participated in supervised student teaching, with an average university
supervisor to student teacher ratio of 1 to 7.63. The student teaching
experience encompassed a minimum of 40 contact hours per week for the 15-week
semester. There were 4900 program completers in the state.
Praxis II exams are required and reported in North Carolina
for students seeking licensure in elementary education or special education.
The overall Praxis II pass rate of UNC Charlotte’s elementary and special
education student teachers was 99%, compared to the state average of 98%. There
were 324 UNC Charlotte student teachers who took the elementary or special
education exams, compared to the state total of 2464 test-takers in these
licensure fields. All teacher education programs at UNC Charlotte are approved
by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and are accredited by the
National Council of Accreditation for Teacher Education (NCATE). None of our
teacher education programs are designated as low-performing by the state.
