David W. Test, Professor

Dr. Test teaches courses in single-subject research, professional writing, transition, secondary methods, and classroom management. Trained as a behavior analyst, his research interests lie in applying these strategies to teach students self-determination and self-advocacy skills, as well as daily living and social skills. His previous experience includes the administration and supervision of more than $8 million in both federally and state funded personnel preparation and research in demonstration grants. Dr. Test currently serves as Co-Principal Investigator of the National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance Center (with Dr. Larry Kortering at Appalachian State University and Dr. Paula Kohler at Western Michigan University) and Co-Director (with Dr. Diane Browder) of UNC Charlotte's Special Education Leadership Preparation Program. His vita includes more than 75 articles and book chapters, the majority focusing on self-determination, transition, community-based training, and supported employment. Dr. Test, along with Dr. Nellie Aspel, and Dr. Jane Everson, recently published the book, Transition Methods for Youth with Disabilities. He is honored to be a former recipient of the First Citizen's Scholar Medal, UNC Charlotte's highest award for scholarship.
