Please click the link below and  download a copy of the Brain Works software from this site. Once you have downloaded the file click on the icon and follow the on screen directions.  Once you have complete the assessment, print out each of the two pages of evaluation.  Read through the results and summarize them in your own words. Post your summary on the course discussion along with a reaction to the results.  Do you think the evaluation is accurate? How could such information be used?  Let the others know what you think.  The file name is BRAINT~1.EXE. Right click on the file and choose copy, then paste the file to your desktop. June 7 - June 11
For this week please respond to one more instrument. Go to the following web site and take the Myers-Briggs.

Once you complete the Myers-Briggs, make a copy of your profile and write a summary of your type. Research the instrument and find out if it has reliability and validity. Also check sources such as Ask Eric to see if you can find any articles or papers about the instrument.  You should also describe (on the course discussion) how the results of such an instrument might be used. Have fun.

June 14 - June 18
After reading Chapters 5 and 6, please respond to the following by posting your reactions on the course discussion.  Provide at least one thing that an instructor would do if they were to follow the theories of teaching from such theorists as (1) Dewey, (2) Bruner, and (3) Bandura?  How could HRD apply the adult education concept that " learners should be involved in their own learning process" and still keep the ultimate goal of performance improvement in mind? Please focus your response on (1) need, (2) create & implement, and (3) evaluate.

After reading Chapters 7 and 8, please go to the following URL and respond to the instrument.  Post your results on the course discussion and provide a brief description of the differences between internal and external locus of control.  How could the learner locus of control influence instruction and grading?  As a part of your response, please see if you can find at least three web sources that provide information about "locus of control" and the reliability and validity instruments that purport to measure this construct.

Part #1
After reading Chapter 10, please respond to the following questions by posting written reactions on the course discussion before the date listed below.

1.) Describe the Whole-Part-Whole learning model in your own words.
2.) What are the two main purposes of the first "whole"?
3.) What must happen before the second "whole" can be effective.

Use a search engine to find 3 sites containing information on the Whole-Part-Whole learning model. After looking over the sites please post the URL and two or three sentence overview of the site on the course discussion.

In addition to the search engines you might wish to use Ask ERIC to help you gather information.

Part #2
Use your textbook and create one multiple choice question for each chapter 1-8.  Make sure that your test items match the rules for multiple choice test items. To see the rules just click the word rules written in blue. The items should include an asterisk (*) in front of each correct answer (see the example below).

Please post your questions on the course discussion and send a copy to the course instructor as an email attachment in Word 97 or Word 2000 format.

Please use this time to prepare for your Midterm Examination.  The exam will be posted on WebCT and you will need to login and complete the exam during a 3 hour period. When you are ready to take the exam you can click on the WebCT link below to enter the login screen.



More information will be provided by the instructor regarding the Midterm Examination the week before you are scheduled to take the exam online.
Please take the Midterm any time between July 5th  and July 11th. The Exam will be available during those days and will be removed at 5:00 PM

Research Paper - Learning Theory:    
Each student will complete a 10 page (double-spaced) research paper.  The paper should describe one general learning theory  and one clinical psychologist view point and explain what this has to do with adult learning theory as described in the course text.  The paper should go into more depth regarding the learning theory and a clinical psychologist view point. An example might be an in-depth look at Carl Rogers as the clinical psychologist and Gagne as the learning theorist.  References should be provided using current APA format.  (Check the UNC Charlotte bookstore for the current APA style manual.) The paper should also identify and explain critical differences in the general and adult learning theories. For basic information on APA style you might wish to visit the following URL's

Research Paper - Please select one learning theory and one clinical psychologist to examine.  Using the internet and the library write a description of the learning theory and the view of on clinical psychologist.  You must include primary source materials (written by the theorist and the psychologist) in your references.

Your paper should:
1. not exceed 10 double-spaced pages.
2. use American Psychological Association (APA) style for all references - Check the bookstore and the library for the APA style manual.  
3. provide an overview of the selected learning theory.
4. provide an overview of the selected clinical psychologist view. 
5. be duplicated in hard copy and on disk.
6. be mailed or delivered to the course instructor in both forms no later than 5:00 PM on the due date. 
7. provide insight into how the clinical psychologist and learning theorist have influenced
    adult learning. 

Criteria for the evaluation of the completed Research Paper:

Does not exceed 10 double-spaced pages 10 point
Properly uses APA format for references 15 points
Overview of learning theory 35 points
Overview of clinical psychologist 30 points
Description of how the selected theory and psychologist have influenced adult learning 30 points
Overall quality of paper 30 points
Total Points Possible 150 points

2.) What is a Critical Performance subsystem?
3.) Define two categories of performance outcome measures.

Please use this time to prepare for your Final Examination.  The exam will be posted on WebCT and you will need to login and complete the exam during a 3 hour period. When you are ready to take the exam you can click on the WebCT link below to enter the login screen.
