December 15, 2011 More than 40 members of the 2011 class of National Board Certified Teachers received their undergraduate degrees from UNC Charlotte’s College of Education. According to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), the college ranks in the top 20 institutions in the country for alumni to achieve this distinction.
In a letter to the college, the NBPTS recognized the College of Education as an “important pipeline for accomplished teachers … We are honored to partner with institutions like yours that also value accomplished teaching.”
Mary Lynne Calhoun, dean of the College of Education, noted that teacher education at UNC Charlotte is a strong partnership among the colleges of Education, Liberal Arts & Sciences, Arts + Architecture and public schools in the region. “We take great pride in the quality of our teacher candidates, the rigor of the curriculum and our commitment to prepare graduates who will excel in the classroom and transform the lives of the children and young people they serve.”
Nationally, more than 6,200 educators achieved national board certification for 2011.
