“Supervision is an intervention that is provided by a senior member of a profession to a junior member or members of that same profession. This relationship is evaluative, extends over time, and has the simultaneous purposes of enhancing the professional functioning of the junior member(s), monitoring the quality of professional services offered to the clients she, he, they see(s), and serving as a gatekeeper of those who are to enter the particular profession” (accepted definition within the counseling profession; Bernard & Goodyear, 1998).
The Institute provides professional school counselors and mental health clinicians’ opportunity to develop their supervision skills and roles. Topics include examining the role of supervision in professional development and clinical practice, establishing the supervisory relationship, specific models of supervision, diversity issues in supervision, evaluation processes in supervision, supervision ethics, and developing disclosure statements, informed consent, and contracts for supervision. Lab sessions will be scheduled for participants to the have opportunity to apply what they are learning in group and individual supervision practice sessions. This institute is for individuals with little or no supervisory training and experience.
Sessions will be held Friday evenings and all day Saturday on the dates noted above.
45 CEU’s will be awarded to participants.

Advanced Supervision Training Weekend
June 1-2, 2012
This weekend is devoted to enhancing and advancing the supervision skills of individuals who have attended previous supervision trainings (full Summer Institute) and have supervisory experience. Topics will focus on supervision and ethical issues; multiculturalism and supervision challenges; supervision of counselors working in schools, with specific populations and client issues i.e. substance abuse, families, trauma & chronic illness, etc.; addressing spirituality in supervision; specific model/method of supervision (with lab practice); and using technology in supervision.
Sessions will be held Friday evening and all day Saturday on the dates noted above.
10 CEU’s will be awarded to participants.
