Community Service

SNEA has a few community service projects during the 2007-2008 year.

1) During November we will participate in a local food drive through the local YMCA. Boxes will be kept in the atrium of the "
College of Education Building.

2) SNEA will continue to work with Seigle Avenue. Seigle Avenue is an afterschool and summer program for children in the Seigle Avenue and Belmont communities.

You can help Seigle Avenue in two ways.

  1. Tutor- The days available for tutoring are:  Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.  The hours the children are there are:  2p-6p.  Homework time is from 4:30p-5:30p.  You only need to commit to 1 hour of tutoring, but more is always welcome!  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Kim Milligan, President of SNEA:  ksmillig@uncc.edu.

  2. Another way to assist Seigle Avenue Partnership is to link your Harris Teeter VIC card to their Together in Education number which is: 5822.  It is very simple to link up.  You just go to the cashier or Customer Service at Harris Teeter and tell them you want to link your card to 5822.  From that point on a portion of all purchases you make will go to Seigle Avenue.

Seigle Avenue also collects Box Tops for Education and Campbell Soup Labels.  There is a bucket in the Reading and Elementary Education Office (COE 367) to collect these.  For product information please check out:  www.boxtops4education.com.
