This is the third version of the strategic goals for the College of Education, with edits incorporated from yesterday’s meeting of the Accreditation/ Continuous Improvement Committee.  This is the version we will vote to affirm at tomorrow’s College meeting.  Revisions include:

·         The addition of the word “ethical” in Goal 1.

·         A reworking of the Diversity goal to represent an even stronger commitment, course of action.

·         Substitute the word “candidates” for “students” in Goal 5.

·         Rewording of Goal 7 to reflect the expertise of the College.

Dear College of Education:  At Monday’s Leadership Council meeting, council members suggested some changes in the College’s goals statements for the 2010-2015 Strategic Plan.  The second draft of the goals incorporates those changes as well as changes suggested by members of the faculty.  Here are the changes:

·         Used a parallel phrase “College of Education” at the start of each goal for consistency.

·         Inserted the phrase “21^st century professionals” in Goal 1 as a reflection of the UNC Tomorrow/ State Board of Education emphasis on 21^st century professionals/ 21^st skills.

·         Added a goal on student life/ student support.

·         Took out phrases from goals 8 and 9 that are “actions” in order to focus more clearly on the outcomes.

Please review and comment on this draft of the College’s goals for 2010-2015.  Each goal will have an Action Plan which will allow for multiple strategic initiatives.  As you think about strategic initiatives that are important to you and your program. test the goal statements to see if there is a good fit for the initiatives.

The College will review, discuss, and be invited to affirm these goals at the November 6 meeting of the College.
