General Program Information 


Who's Eligible for the Teaching Fellows Program?

Any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen and a legal resident of North Carolina is eligible to apply to the Teaching Fellows Program. The application process usually begins in the fall of a student's senior year. Applications are available through high school guidance offices or on the web at the NC Teaching Fellows website. Applicants must also apply and be accepted at a participating North Carolina college or university. Scholarships are awarded in the spring of each year.

At UNC Charlotte, the Teaching Fellows Program fosters scholastic achievement and professional leadership through personal attention and enrichment experiences. Teaching Fellows participate in special activities that complement their involvement in the regular teacher education program. UNC Charlotte's Teaching Fellows Program features a variety of exciting enrichment experiences:

*Activities designed to build leadership abilities

*Retreats focused on interpersonal and team building skills

*Community service projects

*Seminars on relevant and timely educational issues and trends

*Cultural events and multicultural activities

*Opportunities to participate in the Honors College and University Honors Program

*Early and continuous field experiences in public schools

*Paid summer teaching internships

Teaching Fellows also enjoy housing in the Honors dormitory and priority registration for classes.

The Teaching Fellows Program at UNC Charlotte aspires to be North Carolina's most energetic, collaborative, self-directed, and responsive program for recruiting and developing visionary teacher leaders who are committed to a long-term profession in education. The goal of the Teaching Fellows Program is to strive for continuous improvement to become a model teacher preparation program. The Teaching Fellows Program at UNC Charlotte will be known especially for leadership in academic excellence and cultural enrichment. The Program claims to have a special responsibility to graduate effective teachers who are dedicated to improving the status and perception of the teaching profession.
